Response to Searching for Dummies by Edward Tenner (pg 569-570)
I do not believe search engines are making today's students dumber. Even though we can simply type in something in and have pages of information in front of us, we still need to sift through the information to see if it is accurate and true. When researching something, it is the student's responsibility to find a variety of information on the subject they are researching. This can require us reading many different websites and searching through various online libraries. If a student is learning accurate, true information, then I do not see why it matters if the information came from a compuer or a book. I personally would rather have to look through a bunch of websites rather then go through a bunch of books. Though I believe research through books is important, overall, I think search engines help a student retrieve important information in little time.

I agree that search engines are not making us dumber. They are extremley convienent and alllow for more effective research. I believe that by having to search through a book you bypass most of the important information but as in a website most people tend to read the entire webpage. Why should we make it more difficult for ourselves to find the information we need?
